When I chose to read West with Giraffes, I stepped a little outside of my comfort zone. I love thrillers, non-fiction, mysteries, suspense, and some non-fiction thrown in. This was historical fiction and an adorable, fun story.
It still had a few hints of mystery to it. What was Woody Nickel so ashamed of? What happens with him and Red? Is the Old Man hiding something?
West with Giraffes tells the story of a boy who has survived the Dust Bowl and his part in helping two giraffes get to the San Diego Zoo. The tale is inspired by true events and includes some real historical figures woven in with the fictional characters.
I found myself so attached to the characters in this book and invested in their outcomes.
